WDMSC Development Soccer Program
Our Developmental Programs are for players ages 3 to 7 (U4 - U8) that want to participate in age appropriate, soccer specific, skill building, fun and fostering a passion for soccer. It is a non-competitive environment intended as an introduction to the game through short-sided games, focusing on individual player development. Coach to player ratio is kept small to maximize individual development led by our Director of Recreational Coaching.
WDMCS Mini-Kickers U4

The Mini-Kickers program is for players ages 3 and 4 with birth dates between 1/1/2017 and 12/31/2017. Guide and discovery will allow each child to develop social, emotional skills and an understanding of soccer. Players will not be assigned to official teams but will be divided into smaller groups to work on activities.
Program Format/Game Days
The program consists of five weekly sessions that take place at the Raccoon River Soccer Complex on Saturday mornings. In the first session, players will receive a t-shirt to be worn each week and their own soccer ball.

WDMCS Cubbies U5/U6

The WDMSC U5-U6 Soccer Cubs Program is phase one in our Long-Term Player Development Pathway and is the foundation of the club's player development model. For the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 seasons, this program is for players born between 1/1/2015 and 12/31/2016. This age requirement is set by the Iowa Soccer Association. Children will enjoy a program aimed at introducing players to the game of soccer in a fun, no-pressure family atmosphere.
Program Format/Game Days
Cubs play 4v4 with no goalkeeper. Players play in a basic 7-week league schedule, but no league standings or results are recorded. All players are encouraged to move freely and try all field positions; reflecting developmental principles. Players are also encouraged to continue participating in a variety of additional activities to help enhance the full range of basic movement skills and physical literacy. All children receive equal playing time. There are no weekly practices, plenty of do-over's and no one keeps score in order to keep the focus on learning and having fun. The 4-on-4 format and much smaller field ensure that every player touches the ball often during the game.
Cubs teams play other WDMSC Cubs teams on Saturday mornings at Raccoon River Soccer Fields and do not have weekly practices.

For the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 seasons, this program is for players born between 1/1/2013 and 12/31/2014. These children will experience weekly practice sessions for the first time and move to a slightly larger field than the beginning of the Cubbies program. The focus remains strongly on fun, sportsmanship and the basic fundamentals of the game. Children begin to learn more technical skill development and parent coaches have the opportunity to enjoy coaching for the entire season at this level. The club supports parent coaches with player and coaching clinics, curriculum, and written resources. Games are refereed by a certified youth referee and remain very relaxed and positive. All children play equal time.
